Youths are also required to undergo screening for substance abuse problems, mental health evaluations and drug testing. As per the outcome of such testing, the juvenile is monitored and his progress recorded. As the need may be some youth are given special care and kept under observation and paid detailed attention. However, in case of minors who are at higher risk of re-offending or absconding from detention are kept under intensive supervision program which includes increased monitoring and regular contacts with supervision officers.
The juvenile rehabilitation center may extend detention or stay of the youths who as per their progress are found to be yet not recovered from their past addiction abuse.
